Label Description:
“Ripasso Bure Alto Villa Birardi is the unique result of re-fermenting Villa Girardi Valpolicella Classico Sureriore, on the warm grape skins from which Villa Birardi Amarone has been pressed. This process, used only in rare vintage years, imparts the richness of character and personality of a great wine to an already surperior wine.”
Just as Rosso Di Montacino is the step son of Brunello, Ripasso has the same relationship so to speak to Amarone. In both cases, the second wines can be very good bargains as they have many of the great qualities of the “father”, but at a substantially reduced cost. This particular Ripasso met and exceeded expectations – medium bodied, some sweetness of raisins (but well balanced), good mouth feel, and medium finish. Very good overall …. recommended.
