Sen. Eldridge's bill is a nice gesture and will not hurt state wine retailers one bit. At farmers markets in the San Diego, CA region, wine can be sold, but tastings cannot be offered. This permission is of limited utility - boutique hand-made wines cost much more than mass-produced wines to produce. Wine buyers are not inclined to buy a moderate to higher priced wine without a prior tasting to validate its quality or suitability.

Farmers Markets with locally grown and produced wine are not a threat to local wine commerce, and Farmers Markers without wine tasting are not effective venues for quality local hand-made wines.
